The Center for the Book is described in detail on our home page.
It is widely agreed that "book studies" are scholarly investigations that include physical books in a substantial way. Many methodologies - for example, economics, history, literary analysis, religious or legal approaches - can be applied to studies of book production, authorship, reading, libraries, and other ways books have been created or used over a long span of human history.
In local parlance, this phrase is used to refer to "hands on" study of papermaking, calligraphy, fine press printing, bookbinding, and related subjects such as typographical design and punch-cutting, decorative paper making and artists' books, and so on.
Refer to our Facilities page for office, papermaking, press and classroom locations.

The UICB is an educational program, however, UICB staff may be able to refer you to possible book makers in the student or Iowa City community.
The UICB has gratefully accepted donations based on program needs and interests.
The Center is grateful for your support. The preferred method of giving is through The University of Iowa Foundation. Please direct your gift to the benefit of The University of Iowa Center for the Book.
