Studying at one of the oldest dye studios in Kyoto, she learned the art of dyeing paper in brilliant colors for temple festivals, sutra copying, and other uses. She has an MFA from the University of California Santa Barbara and now teaches as a visiting artist at Mount Holyoke College. Her own work integrates traditional skills with contemporary techniques, and is exhibited nationally and internationally.
